For members of the Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty programs, the merger of the two companies means one thing – a much, much larger network of hotels to choose from.
Combined, the two companies offer upwards of 5,700 hotels worldwide its members can use points to book. It’s worth noting, however, that the merger won’t be fully complete until 2018. You can, although, transfer points between the two programs starting last Friday. And while the transfer ratio isn’t exactly 1:1, as it’s the beginning of something huge and something new for its members.

How to Get SPG Points
There are plenty of ways to up your Starpoints balance. Here’s a few:
- Uber – SPG has partnered with Uber to help members earn Starpoints with each ride. To earn, go to spg.com/uber and link your accounts.
Not only can you earn Starpoints with everyday Uber rides but if you use Uber during your stay at an SPG hotel, you’ll earn even more!
- Car Rentals – SPG has partnered with Avis and SIXT. Renting a car from Avis with credit you 50 points per day while you’ll get 250 points per rental with SIXT or 500 points per limo rental with SIXT.
- Stay at an SPG hotel – The old fashioned way to earning points. Staying at their hotels and paying for them! Depending on your status with SPG, the amount of points you’ll earn will vary. However, if you have an SPG Amex be sure to use it to pay for your stay and at the hotel.
