American Airlines is quickly becoming my favorite airline. I recently flew their new 777 business class from ORD to LHR and left amazed. It was spacious, clean and incredibly comfortable. American is quickly updating their domestic planes as well so even after their devaluation, I still see American Airlines AAdvantage miles as valuable. Here’s my favorite ways to earn them:
Apply for an AA Credit Card
AA currently offers 3 credit cards through Citi.
- AAdvantage Executive Card – 50,000 bonus sign up miles
- AAdvantage Platinum Select – 30,000 bonus sign up miles
- AAdvantage Business Platinum Select – 30,000 bonus sign up miles
This is the quickest and easiest way to quickly rack up some American Airlines miles.

Online Shopping through the AAdvantage E-Shopping Mall
The AAdvantage E-Shopping mall is a great way to earn AA miles, especially if you have an online shopping addiction. Be sure to check out evreward.com first, though. In fact, one of the first things I ever did when I started collecting airline miles was buy four Tumi bags from ebags.com through the AA e-shopping mall for 45 miles/dollar. I ended up netting around 90,000 miles! Kept one and sold the rest on eBay. Lost about $200 but I see it as paying for a first class roundtrip ticket to anywhere in the world for $200 – not too shabby.
Financial and Business
American Airlines has partnered with numerous banks and investment firms to offer AAdvantage miles. For example, Fidelity. You can earn up to 50,000 bonus miles by opening an investment account.

You can always buy miles. Wait for a good promotion though as purchasing miles is usually a terrible deal. By good deal, I mean a 100% bonus. Even then, it might be a bad idea.
